PANGAEA - THE SIDEMEN STORY
ROLE - Global Creative Director - Overseeing conceptual ideation, edits, direction and delivery.
My reputation and close working relationship with the team at Pangaea (through the work I had previously done with them at YouTube) gave us the opportunity to be involved in this very exciting project. The ask was to create a teaser trailer and main trailer for, some would say, the most influential group of content-makers ever to have hit our social platforms. Through my experience with complex stakeholder management coupled with a creative vision we embarked on the journey.
The Sidemen story is short film for Netflix outlining the highs and lows of the famous group of YouTubers. With a loyal following it was our job to make sure we positioned something that was energetic, frenetic, authentic and captivating, to drive viewership on Netflix. When we came onboard, Pangaea were still deep in post-production and we were being given sections of the edit as they were completed. We knew it would be essential to capture the brief, tone of the piece and visual identity perfectly to ensure effliciencies without sacrificing the creativity and impact of the piece, especially when the sign-off process was complex.
The teaser and trailer was viewed over 15 million times by eagerly anticipating fans across social channels, with the film achieving the number one spot in its first week on Netflix.
